“I am pleased that the girls have started the water polo championship. At the moment it is very difficult to gather players, many of them are abroad. I would like to increase the number of teams in the championship, but there are objective realities in the country. Not everyone can be in Ukraine and play for teams. Now we are working to preserve women’s water polo in the country and develop it gradually. I believe that after Ukraine’s victory over the enemy, the women’s championship will develop and water polo in general will be at the highest level,” said Oleksandr Svishchov, President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation.

“I am, of course, glad that we won two games, but I wish there were more teams and more interesting games and competition. We failed to prepare properly, to gather the whole team for a training camp. Half of the Amazons came straight to the games without joining the five-day training camp beforehand. So the preparation was not what I had imagined. I am satisfied with the result, the task has been accomplished. We managed to score the maximum points in this round, thanks to all the girls,” – summarizes the first round of the Ukrainian championship the head coach of Water polo club Dynamo Amazons Lviv Yevhen Skyba.

“Since the beginning of September, we have been preparing for this competition. We approached the final stage of preparation in good shape, had an eight-day training camp in Kamianske. But unfortunately, 90% of the athletes got sick and had a high fever at the training camp. So all our work went down the drain. At the same time, we had a task to keep the girls healthy. So we played to the best of our abilities,” says Mykhailo Lebedev, head coach of the Kyiv national team.

“We played two games and it is a pity that we lost both of them. The game against Lviv didn’t work out for us, which is why we lost by a big score. We fought with the Kyiv team, but lost by one goal. Three of our players played with a fever. This is the second year that the team has been training away from home, and maybe this also affects our games. There are three more rounds ahead, we will fight for a higher place, but for now we are in third place. I thank the girls for keeping the team together even in such a difficult time. We are grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for allowing us to organize and participate in the Ukrainian championship,” – said Serhiy Ryabchenko, head coach of the Donetsk Oblast team.
