“This is the foundation for the future”: Oleksandr Svishchov summarizes the results of the final of the Water Polo Super League in Lviv

The final round of the Ukrainian Super League men’s water polo championship has ended in Lviv. The tournament, which was hosted by the city from May 27 to 31, was not only an arena of intense sports competition, but also a platform for important diplomatic steps in international sports policy.

The main event of the finals was the visit of high-ranking officials from European Aquatics – the Federation’s President Antonio Jose Silva and Vice President Erkan Yalcin. The foreign delegates saw with their own eyes the conditions in which Ukrainian water polo players train during the war.

Oleksandr Svishchov’s firm position and international support

The President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation, Oleksandr Svishchov, emphasized the importance of this visit for the further isolation of the aggressor country in the international arena. Our officials used this opportunity to personally convey to their European colleagues Ukraine’s position on preventing Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the competition.

“I am very glad that representatives of European Aquatics came to us and saw the conditions in which water polo players train and compete. We conveyed to them our position on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions. I hope that they will support us,” said the President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation.

Oleksandr Svishchov also emphasized that the current result is not only about tournament performance, but also about the foundation for the future. The team is rejuvenating, gaining experience and gradually reaching a level where it can compete with the world’s leading teams.

Antonio José Silva

European Aquatics President Antonio Jose Silva, who visited Odesa, Kyiv and Lviv during his visit, confirmed his intention to help Ukraine: “We face a huge challenge. On the one hand, it is how we can help rebuild the infrastructure that was destroyed during the war. On the other hand, it is how we can support the development of water sports here in Ukraine with real programs for elite sports.”

Super League results: Dynamo’s triumph and season results

In a purely sporting confrontation, the hosts of the pool confirmed their leadership. According to the results of the final round of the Ukrainian Super League Championship, Dynamo Lviv water polo club won its 13th overall and 8th consecutive championship in history.

The top three leaders of the men’s Super League season look like this:

  1. Water polo club Dynamo Lviv is the champion of Ukraine
  2. NTU “KhPI” – SHVSM (Kharkiv) – silver medalists
  3. Lviv College of Sports – Aquatico (Lviv) – bronze medalists

Oleksandr Svishchov added: “I am sincerely grateful to all the teams who came to Lviv despite the difficult conditions, shelling and logistical challenges and demonstrated their character. The fact that the clubs from Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, Odesa and other regions are keeping their heads up, updating their rosters and fighting for every ball proves that Ukrainian water polo is alive, developing and getting stronger.”

Despite the martial law, water polo in Ukraine continues to hold a high standard. The successful completion of the Super League season and the visit of European sports officials were made possible thanks to the clear and coordinated work of the Federation under the leadership of Oleksandr Svishchov. His efforts to protect Ukraine’s interests at the international level and comprehensive support of the clubs have once again proved that Ukrainian sport remains a symbol of our unbreakable spirit.
