The third round of the Ukrainian Men’s Super League championship has ended in Kamianske. The competition lasted from March 28 to 31. At this stage of the championship, the teams from Groups A and B competed against each other.
The leadership of the Ukrainian championship is held by Water polo club “Dynamo” Lviv, but the fight for the second place is intense – NTU “KPI-SVSM” from Lviv claims the silver medal. Kharkiv and VK Mariupol. After ten matches, they have 21 points each.
“I was surprised to see the level of the teams rise, and there was intrigue in the fight for second place. Lviv was in the lead and remained there. But who will become the silver medalist will be decided in the fourth round. In this round, Water polo club Mariupol, NTU KhPI-SVSM, LFKS-Aquatico, KIVS, and the Zakarpattia Oblast team showed a lot of fight with a difference of one or two goals. The next round should be very interesting.
As for the organizational aspects of the third round, everything went smoothly, without incident,” said Valeriy Zavizion, the chief judge of the third round of the Ukrainian championship.
“The third round of the Super League, which included teams from two groups: “A” and “B”, very well demonstrated the struggle for the top four, which will compete for the championship medals. The intrigue for the second place is especially palpable. The second to sixth place teams are fighting for the second place and there is a lot of competition in the pool. Despite the changes in the lineup of Water polo club Dynamo Lviv and the significant rejuvenation of the team, it is currently the absolute leader of the Super League of Water Polo in the 2023/2024 season. At the moment, we can say that the water polo championship has frozen at a certain level, as many water polo players are unable to play because of the war. Young water polo players are now abroad, many serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Today, we have the leader, Water polo club Dynamo Lviv, and the teams that will compete for the prizes: Water polo club Mariupol, NTU KhPI-SVSM, LFKS-Aquatico, KIVS, and the Zakarpattia region team. In the next round, we plan to do live broadcasts, as the fans will see a lot of good and intriguing matches. We understand that there may be a limited number of people in the stands due to the war, so we will be able to watch the matches online. It is a shame that many young water polo players are abroad. On the one hand, this is an experience for young players in European teams, and on the other hand, the younger generation would have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills by playing for various Super League teams and compete with experienced players. On the positive side, many players who are now in their 30s have returned to water polo. Now I’m looking forward to the next fourth round of the Men’s Super League,” summarized Oleksandr Svishchov, President of the Ukrainian Water Polo Federation.
