Oleksandr Svishchov has been actively involved in the development of Ukrainian sports for more than 10 years. As the President of the Water Polo Federation of Ukraine, he made a lot of effort to ensure that our domestic water polo community under martial law had proper conditions for training and reached a new level.
In 2022, he managed to successfully organise educational and training meetings for the preparation of national teams of Ukraine abroad, and later – participation in international competitions, where, for example, the women’s national team U19 entered the top 10 winners of the world championship. Also, many all-Ukrainian competitions were held – precisely at the expense of the Federation and the President of the Federation.
What is important, from the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Oleksandr Svishchov organized a reliable shelter for leading Ukrainian athletes who were forced to leave their homes in the active war zone, conducted negotiations with foreign water polo federations and organised free stay of athletes abroad: in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary. Overall, more than 160 children and young men and women were placed abroad.
Thanks to the efforts of the President of the Water Polo Federation, Ukrainian water polo today continues to develop unceasingly, and Ukrainian athletes – to give Ukraine worthy victories!
